Operation Round Up Grant Application

Application for an organization Application for an individual

What is Operation Round Up?

Americans formed electric cooperatives across the nation in the 1940's. Since then, we have dedicated ourselves to improving the quality of life for people in our service area.

One of our successful community service efforts is the Operation Round Up program. Operation Round Up is a program that uses voluntary contributions for charitable giving. The voluntary contributions are collected by rounding up electric bills to the next dollar.

The idea for Operation Round Up began at Palmetto Electric Cooperative in Hilton Head, SC, many years ago. Co-op leaders there saw a need to help communities and started the fund.

Operation Round Up is successful because of the generosity of our members.

How does it work?

For example, if your power bill is $74.62, it will be rounded up to $75.00. You would donate $0.38 to the KEM Electric Operation Round Up fund that month. Monthly Round Up amounts could be as little as $0.01 but not more than $0.99. On average the program would cost you about $6.00 per year.

The Operation Round Up program is completely voluntary, but All new KEM Electric members are enrolled in Operation Round Up.

We encourage all members to take part in Operation Round Up and see the results your small donation will help generate. By giving a few cents each month, members are making a big impact. The cooperative board, trust officers and staff thank you for your participation.

If you wish to start contributing click this  Opt-in Form

If you wish to discontinue participation in Operation Round Up call the KEM office.

How is the money managed?

KEM collects contributions through billing, handling deposits, and record keeping.

A trust fund board is responsible for the distribution of all funds.

The KEM Electric Cooperative Operation Round Up trust officers are as follows:

  • District at Large Sue Wald, Napoleon
  • District at Large Michael Knoll, Hague
  • District 1 Derry Pool, Pollock
  • District 2 Tami Naaden, Braddock
  • District 3 Susan Meidinger, Zeeland
  • District 4 Sherry Fettig, Wishek
  • District 5 Charley Cichy, Dawson

The officers meet four times a year to distribute funds.

Upcoming Meeting Dates are:

  • January  11, 2023
  • April 12, 2023
  • July 12, 2023
  • October 11, 2023
When was it approved?

The KEM Electric Board of Directors approved "Operation Round Up" for its members at the January 2002 board meeting. Each board member has appointed a person from their district to serve on the Operation Round Up board.

The new board established the bylaws and guidelines for the distribution of funds received from "Operation Round Up".
