Off-Peak Programs

Two electric heating incentive rates are offered by the Cooperative. The first incentive rate deals with an all-electric heat system. The second incentive rate deals with a dual heat system where electric heat is the main source of heat with an approved backup system such as storage heaters, an automated operational fossil fuel furnace or floor heat.  The programs entitle the member to use electric heat for their home as their primary source of heat and receive a lower rate per kilowatt-hour.  The usage is metered separately from the rest of the home by means of a “sub-meter”.  The all-electric heat system uses no peak-controller; whereas the dual heat system has a peak-controller installed.

Electric Heat

KEM offers an off-peak rate to homes/shops with a qualified electric heat system with an approved backup system such as storage heaters, an automated operational fossil fuel furnace, or floor heat.  The requirements are as follows:

  • Electric heat must be the primary source of heat or must have a minimum of 12 kW and must have an approved backup system such as storage heaters, an automated operational fossil fuel furnace, or floor heat to be sub-metered.
  • Minimum of 8 kW can be sub-metered.
  • Must be inspected before any special rate applies.

Financing is available for qualified installations.

Grain Drying

KEM offers an off-peak rate to qualified members. The capacity of the grain dryer motors must be at least 8 kW or 10 HSP of load to qualify.

  • Must be inspected before any special rate applies.
  • Financing available for qualified installations.
Heat Pump Installation

Ground source heat pumps are the most efficient heating and cooling system available. They offer a single, simple system that uses the earth to heat and cool your home, and they operate at efficiencies of up to 350 percent. Ground source heat pumps are also environmentally friendly. You aren't creating heat, you are only moving it from one place to another.

KEM Electric offers a discounted electric heat rate to homes/shops with a qualified installation. The requirements are as follows:

  • Electric heat must be main source of heat or must have a minimum of 12 kW.
  • Must be inspected before any special rate applies.

Financing is available for qualified installations.

Irrigation

KEM Electric offers an off-peak irrigation rate to all irrigation accounts that agree to be controlled during peak times.

Storage Water Heating

KEM Electric offers an off-peak rate for qualified storage water heating.  The requirements are as follows:

  • Member agrees to be on load control.
  • Must be at least 100 gallons (two water heaters connected in series or one 100-gallon water heater).
  • Must be inspected before any special rate applies.
  • Are issued after inspection by KEM personnel.

Financing is available for qualified installations.

Water Heating

KEM Electric offers off-peak water heating credits to water heaters that are on control.  The requirements are as follows:

  • Water heaters must be at least 50-gallon capacity and have at least a 10 yr. warranty.
  • Must use 800 kWh monthly to receive credit.
  • Must be inspected before any special rate applies.

Rebates and financing are available for qualified installations.

Whole-House Electric Heat

KEM Electric offers a discounted electric heat rate to homes/shops with an all-electric heat system.   The requirements are as follows:

  • Electric Heat must be main source of heat.
  • Minimum of 8 kW can be sub-metered.
  • Must be inspected before any special rate applies.

Financing is available for qualified installations.
